The Kodak Zi8 is one of many pocket sized video cameras released recently, however this little camera has some great features. To start of with it has the capabilty of recording in full HD (thats right full 1080p High Definition Video in a small handheld camera) and unlike other similar style cameras the Zi8 can also take great still shots up to 5.0MP in 16:9 widescreen. The Zi8 also features: An external microphone jack which lets you record in stereo Built-in image stabilization Smart face tracking technology A vibrant 6.4 cm color LCD screen Pop-out USB arm for direct connection to your computer - Sleek, modern design
Great little camera for catching all the action.

The new Canon S90 is small. It weighs about 175 grams and is approx 31mm thick. Though it may be small, it is packed full of features including a wide angle lens, manual controls and even a control ring.
- 10.0 megapixels with High Sensitivity CCD for better noise reduction delivering outstanding quality images in low light
- Dual Anti-Noise System: Expand the range of shooting situations by reducing noise and highlight blowouts, preventing blurring and making low light shooting possible
- 28mm wide-angle lens allows you to shoot beautiful landscapes or capture great group shots
- RAW image recording giving you the highest image quality with complete flexibility during processing
- Optical Image Stabilizer for crisp shots even at high zoom or in low-light conditions without flash
- High resolution 3.0 inch LCD screen with wide angle viewing (461,000 dots)
- Low Light Mode ensures perfect shots are captured even in low-lit scenarios
- Get creative with your photography and enjoy full flexibility with manual control
- A new feeling in a compact camera with the control ring allowing increased operability
I have had a bit of a play with the S90 and I must say I really like it. The main functions are very intuitive to use and the added manual controls I'm sure would be easy enough to get the hang of with use. If you are in the market for a new camera I would recommend popping into your local camera store and taking the S90 for a test drive.

I have recently purchased my very own Kodak ZX1 Pocket Video Camera! I have only had a chance to use it a little bit, but so far its brilliant! The controls are very simple, it has a 2 inch screen, and can even record in HD (720p up to 60 frames per second). The ZX1 comes in various colours and also has a few accessories available, including a helmet mount! I'm looking forward to getting to use it a bit more whilst on holiday in a few weeks, I just need to get a larger high speed SD card so I can get the most out of it. Underwater cameras seem to be gaining popularity in the minds of manufaturers and consumers alike. Panasonic have recently jumped into the ring with their attempt to get a piece of the pie.
The Panasonic Lumix FT1, tested to the same military standards as the Panasonic Toughbooks, is waterproof, shockproof and dustproof. It features a Leica wide-angle zoom lens, HD movie recording, 12.1 Megapixel and a 2.7 inch LCD screen.
I got to have a bit of a play with one of these at work and I was quite impressed. If you see one of these in your local camera store I would recommend having a bit of a nosey for yourself.
Main features of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1
- Water Proof 3.0m, Shock Proof 1.5m and Dust Proof
- HD Movie Recording in AVCHD Lite with Dolby Digital Creator
- Advanced iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode with Face Recognition and Movie iA Mode
- 28mm Wide-angle 4.6x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens
- 12.1-megapixel
- 2.7-inch High-resolution Intelligent LCD with Wide-viewing Angle

Recently I purchased a Canon Powershot SX110 IS from work as my old Powershot A75 is slowly dying. So far the SX110 has been great and I have been taking photos with it most days (see project365.feldon.co.nz). The only problems i've found with it are that like most compact digital cameras available at the moment the SX110 struggles in low light situations and also that it has no viewfinder (it can been handy sometimes) Other than that I would fully recommend this particular model for those people who like a few more options in their digital photography without going down the DSLR path. "Combining an impressive Canon 10x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer, the 9.0MP PowerShot SX110 IS reduces the effects of camera shake and blur, giving you crisp shots, even at high zoom. Offering point and shoot simplicity or full manual control, and featuring Canon's DiG!C III processor, the PowerShot SX110 IS is the perfect travel companion and lets you get close to the action."
Precision image quality 9.0 Megapixels 10x Optical Zoom DiG!C III ISO 1600
Canon Blur Control solution using: Optical Image Stabilizer Face Detect Motion Detect Technology
Perfect portraits of family & friends Face Detection & Selector Red-eye correction
Digital photography made easy 3.0" LCD screen 1cm macro shooting Point and Shoot simplicity or full manual control Easy Mode for shooting and playback My Category for easy image sorting More info @ canon.co.nz |
